John A. MacDonald
MLA Hants-East
John A. MacDonald was first elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly as the MLA for Hants-East in 2021 and was re-elected in 2024.
Prior to his election, John served on municipal council for nine years and owned a small business in the IT sector for over 20 years. He brings deep knowledge of the communities of Hants-East and the issues affecting residents, including access to healthcare and education.
John is a proud resident of Lantz, where he lives with his wife, Chantelle, and their daughter, Teresa.
Since his election, John’s strong representation of Hants-East has earned him several roles as an MLA and as a member of the PC Caucus. These roles include:

August 2021: Elected as MLA for Hants-East. Appointed as a member of the Public Accounts Committee, Human Resources Committee, Chair of the Health Committee, and member of the Private and Local Bills Committee.

September 2022: Added role as Government Whip.

November 26, 2024: Re-elected as MLA for Hants-East.

December 10, 2024: Sworn in for a second term.

December 13, 2024: Became Caucus Chair for the PC Caucus, reappointed Chair of the Health Committee, and appointed a member of the Treasury and Policy Board.

December 19, 2024: Appointed Ministerial Assistant for Growth and Development.
