2026 Emergency Services Provider Fund

HANTS EAST – East Hants emergency responders will be even better equipped to keep our communities safe, thanks to an investment of $87,763 by the Houston government, Hants East MLA Hon. John A. MacDonald said today.
The funding, provided through the Emergency Services Provider Fund, will help three local fire departments provide firefighters with new bunker gear and breathing apparatus, along with rescue tools, hoses and decontamination equipment.
The following organizations will receive funding:
Enfield Volunteer Fire Department: $30,000 for bunker gear, hoses and nozzles.
Maitland & District Volunteer Fire Department: $30,000 for rescue tools.
Milford and District Fire Department: $27,763 for bunker gear, breathing apparatus, decontamination showers, hose fittings and foam equipment.
“East Hants is one of the fastest-growing parts of the province, and more homes and more traffic mean more calls for our fire departments,” said MLA MacDonald. “Three departments are getting new equipment, including decontamination showers in Milford that help firefighters wash off harmful contaminants after a fire. Our firefighters look out for this community, and this investment looks out for them.”
These local organizations are among 100 across Nova Scotia receiving a total of more than $2.7 million through the Emergency Services Provider Fund to support the purchase of emergency response equipment.
Individual grants through the Emergency Services Provider Fund cover up to 90 per cent of eligible equipment costs, to a maximum of $30,000 per organization. The fund also has a regional stream for emergency response organizations and municipalities working together on projects that improve emergency services across a wider area. Applications for the regional stream are open until October 31.
