MUNICIPAL AFFAIRS--Water, Wastewater Infrastructure Upgrades Support Growth in Antigonish

Critical upgrades to water, wastewater and stormwater systems in Antigonish will improve service and unlock additional housing opportunities needed to support growth in the area.

“We want to create more opportunities for housing and to help our communities grow,” said John A. MacDonald, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “This investment in the Town of Antigonish’s water, wastewater and stormwater systems will benefit current residents and lay the groundwork for future growth.”

Upgrades on West Street and James Street will benefit a total of 423 existing homes and lay the groundwork for up to 323 additional residential units. The project includes replacement and rehabilitation of drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure that will ensure that future developments in the area are fully serviced.

The three levels of government are investing more than $4.1 million in the project through the new Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund, including almost $1.4 million from the Province. Under the fund agreement with the Government of Canada, Nova Scotia will receive $170.9 million over a 10-year period to support population growth.
